Ricky Leacock passed away on Wednesday in Paris. This master of the documentary artform was finishing a multimedia autobiography, which is due to appear this year. I had the immense chance to know him a little while at Media Lab Europe and to benefit from his advices. May he rest in peace.

Après la tempête
Quand je vivais à Paris, en 1999, à la Cité Universitaire, j’ai goûté au délicieux climat de fin de siècle qui régnait dans la capitale.
Je pensais souvent au vieux fou qui apparaît dans l’Etoile mystérieuse de Tintin, et se promène dans la rue en annonçant la fin du monde.
J’avais imaginé à ce moment-là de faire une performance dans le métro parisien, dans laquelle j’imiterais ce personnage. Hélas je ne l’ai pas fait.
Le bug de l’an 2000 a été une bonne manière de capitaliser sur les frayeurs de toute une société dépendante de l’informatique dans ses activités quotidiennes. Mais plus impressionnante a été l’énorme tempête qui a déferlé sur la France et a arraché un nombre considérable d’arbres.
